How do you feel winning the finals?
Head Coach Choi Byung-hoon:
First of all, it's been a long time since we won the championship. It's
true that we were more eager to win today because we have never won in the
Spring season before. I actually feel indifferent because we got a good
performance that went just like practice. I am thankful for Tom and Easyhoon
who performed really well in this finals match. Although three of our players
did not get the opportunity to play today, I think we were victorious because
everyone was united as one team.
Coach Kim Jung-gyun:
I don't know what to do because the head coach said everything I wanted to
say (laugh). We prepared a lot today. Fortunately, the match ended with 3
sets so we didn't give away everything we had prepared. I think it made it
easier for us to prepare for the upcoming MSI. Some players did not get to
play today but I hope they don't feel discouraged with that. Piccaboo
especially has been dealing with a wrist injury. I hope he recovers soon.
MaRin:
It was my first finals experience. I am ecstatic that we won. With this, we
secured our spot in the MSI. (At the MSI) I really want to work hard to let
people know that Korea is the strongest nation in eSports.
Bengi:
I thought I would get to play this time as well because I did well in the
last match. I'm slightly disappointed. If I'm selected to play in the MSI
I'll make sure I display a good performance.
Tom:
I was really dejected so far because I played badly in the last match. I
think I got another chance with this finals match and played properly. I feel
very happy.
Faker:
We won the championship but I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to play.
It makes me think that I'm going to have to play even better the next
opportunity I get. I think I learned a lot from winning the championship this
time. I'm very proud of my teammates. I'll do my best at the MSI as well.
Easyhoon:
I feel very happy that we won, but I plan to continue working hard without
rest towards the ultimate goal, the World Championship.
Bang:
I felt the joy of winning the championship for the first time in my 3-year
pro gaming career. I still can't believe it. All this time I've been
watching other teams win the championship.
Wolf:
I am very happy we become the winning team of this tournament. I'll work
hard so that we can win the MSI as well.
Piccaboo:
It feels alright to win the championship (laugh).
(To Tom and Easyhoon) You gave a disappointing performance in the playoffs
(*The matches leading up to the finals, not in the finals).
Easyhoon:
It was a mistake to pick Vladimir into Azir. I did not doubt my ability so I
thought that I just had to work harder in preparation.
Tom:
Honestly, I was scolded for performing so badly in the playoffs. I was
dispirited. But I didn't let myself get depressed and prepared hard.
Head Coach Choi Byung-hoon:
Both players gave underwhelming performances in the playoffs, but it wasn't
like there were only disappointing moments in their play. We chose to
substitute because we had a lot of cards prepared. We were able to win thanks
to the two players today.
*[1;37;41mDo you know there's a roster limit in the MSI?
Head Coach Choi Byung-hoon:
I understand that we are only allowed 6 players. I am agonizing over it. I
think we can secure a good result regardless of who plays. I would like to
bring all my players with me but there's nothing I can do.
(To Easyhoon) Normally you're known for your defensive play, but you made
a lot of aggressive plays today.
Easyhoon:
Before, I used to think that playing defensively was the best choice. I
played aggressively today because the situation allowed for it. I think my
playstyle changes depending on the situation.
Faker:
Easyhoon (hyung) played very well today. It was also because Kuro was really
nervous. To be honest, Easyhoon's performance has been consistently good in
the practice matches.
(To MaRin) You had a very high win rate on Maokai. Yet you picked Gnar two
sets in a row.
MaRin:
Gnar is a very good champion to first pick. I'm planning on using the
Maokai I wasn't able to play today in the upcoming MSI tournaments and such.
(To MaRin) People often say you have a weak mentality.
MaRin:
It's true that I used to have a weak mentality, but I think I've been
improving lately. We have player(s) that are mentally weak on the team, so
sometimes I need to assume the role of taking care of them. Maybe that’s the
reason? (laugh)
After an amazing prime, you had a long slump. What do you think changed
from back then?
Head Coach Choi Byung-hoon:
Our concerns grew more and more noticeable as time passed. Of course, the
coaching staff and the players are all working very hard, but I still don't
see it as a complete revival. I think we're going to have to address the
weaknesses that did not surface during this season. I think it ultimately
depends on the efforts of the coaching staff.
Faker:
The reason why there's a difference between 2013 and now is because the
domestic teams have grown much weaker as the best players in Korea left the
country. I think the reason why we were able to win the championship is
because we continued our good plays in solo queue. I think it would be good
to engage in practice that focuses on solo queue.
(To Bang) Many people say your current ability has improved from when you
were in SKT T1 S. Why do you think that is?
Bang:
Personally, I think mechanics are the fundamentals/basics of all pro gamers.
What’s important is how you apply that ability on a team-based level. When I
was in SKT T1 S, it was hard for our head coach and coach to look after
everyone because we had sister teams. I think my ability improved now because
we are all united as one team. I still don't think I am the best AD Carry
yet.
You have qualified for the MSI. Do you have a team you would like to play
against?
Faker:
I'm looking forward to EDG and TSM the most. I think those two teams, the
Chinese region and NA region has the highest quality out of all the foreign
regions. Also, I'm personally excited because EDG and TSM both have strong
mid laners. EDG has TWO Korean players. And I have never faced Bjergsen
before so I would like to play him this time.
Bang:
I want to face EDG. I'm personally close with Deft and I've never played
against them before in a tournament.
Piccaboo:
EDG and TSM. I think TSM is a very fascinating team. EDG's bot duo, mid
laner, and jungler are really good. I want to see what I can learn from
playing against those players.
Wolf:
I want to face TSM. Whenever I see Lustboy I always feel like he's a
good player.
Easyhoon:
I'm looking forward to EDG. There was a time when I was a teammate to Deft,
and I'm also personally close with PawN.
Bengi:
I'm most cautious of EDG. I tend to watch a lot of the Chinese league, and
they took first place. And I really want to play against ClearLove.
MaRin:
I want to play against Fnatic. I'm close with Huni so I want to face him to
see how good he is.
Tom:
I think the team I am most cautious of is EDG. To be honest, I haven't
kept up with anything other than the Chinese league.
(To Coach Kim Jung-gyun) Who do you think contributed the most in the
playoffs and the finals?
Coach Kim Jung-gyun:
I think it's Bang. His play was good, but I personally think that
desperation/earnestness is one's biggest asset. Bang used that asset very
well.
You almost allowed a comeback in set 3.
MaRin:
It's true that we felt a little impatient once they started to catch up
after we’ve been ahead for so long. Despite that, I still cheered my
teammates on, telling them we could win as long as we stayed calm. I would
like to thank the players once again for following my lead.
