Liverpool transfer news: Ben Woodburn joins Hearts on loan.
Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts on
a season-long loan.
Woodburn, who joined Liverpool’s academy as an under-7s player, had attracted
serious interest from a number of clubs in Greece, Denmark and Croatia as wel
l as the Championship in recent weeks.
Hearts, however, have managed to get a deal over the line for Woodburn, who is
now entering the final year of his deal at Anfield.
Speaking to the official Hearts website, manager Robbie Neilson said: “I’m r
eally pleased that we’ve got this one over the line. Ben is a top class playe
r with Premier League and international experience and he was really eager to
join us.
“He’s an exciting player, one who I think will fit really well into our styl
e of play. He’s quick, direct and can bring us different options in the final
third.
“I’m looking forward to working with him and I hope that he will be a succes
s here at Hearts.”
As The Athletic recently reported, some at Liverpool were reluctant to allow W
oodburn to leave unless the right opportunity presents itself. This reluctance
stems from how much the Wales international has impressed Jurgen Klopp and Li
verpool’s coaching staff in pre-season.
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders, in particular, has been a big fan and is among
those understood to be advocating for the player to stay. Woodburn was credit
ed with having helped to lift the intensity of training sessions during the su
mmer.
