"Canned laughter" was used frequently in the olden days of television
sitcoms. The shows were recorded without an audience, and then a laugh-track
recording was added so that laughter was heard at all the appropriate
moments. The audience watching at home would laugh along, because we all know
that laughter is contagious. You may encounter a group of people in a social
situation who are all on the same page about an issue that is important to
you. You may not agree, Libra, but it's hard to resist when everyone else is
playing along. Stand your ground and don't get sucked into a group mentality.
