花了几天时间，趁著空档，把《Taiwan Travelogue》读完了。看到一些网上的评论，不
管是赞许的或者对这本小说很有意见的，其实绝大多数的台湾人都没有弄清楚一件事：国
际布克奖颁给的是《Taiwan Travelogue》，而不是《台湾漫游录》。这其实是两本不同
的书，不是同一本书。
我自己阅读的感觉就是这样：《Taiwan Travelogue》有非常多巧妙的句子，以及生动的
段落呈现，传达出细腻的情感。这样的感觉，在我更早之前阅读《台湾漫游录》时，并没
有印象。中文版的文字蛮流畅的，但是英文版的微言大义非常之多，读起来就像是两个女
人透过非常多微妙的象征物和暧昧的对话，在祕密谈恋爱；但是中文版并没有给我太多这
种秘密谈恋爱的感觉，很多时候反而比较像是非常醒目地敲锣打鼓，在进行一些事。
国际布克奖的评审，很可能跟我一样，从里面读出了许多细微流动的情感，还有那种偷偷
摸摸、欲说还透的心情，所以给予它很高的评价。其实，用所谓的字句的细节去建构一个
精巧的世界(不管是大世界还是小世界)，就是小说这种艺术，最重要的关键。
说到英文版跟中文版不同之处，随手举来在全书太多了，讲下来就要变成英文文学赏析课
了。举一个具备画面感的描写段落，第一章开头青山千鹤子回忆初到台湾时，看到的南国
景象:
英文版是这样:
Rows of red-brick Shina-style buildings stretched endlessly into the distance.
Round vermilion lanterns hung from the roofs alongside sunset-colored ones
shaped like seeds.
Squares of white tarp blossomed overhead.
Kanji signs of all colors and patterns flashed past my sightline.
And then the stalls: vegetables—utterly alien to me—piled into green,
yellow, white hills.
Blood-red meat carved into strips, hanging from hooks like flesh tapestries.
