Jeremy Lin: Why new texting bud D’Angelo Russell is perfect fit

Jeremy Lin, the Nets’ point guard of the present, admits he was shocked and surprised when his team traded for D’Angelo Russell, its point guard of the future. But Lin said he already has talked with his new teammate and insists there won’t be any problems sharing the ball or the backcourt.

After an NBA-worst 20-62 last season, the Nets needed to find creative ways to get elite young talent. On Tuesday general manager Sean Marks sent Brook Lopez and the 27th pick in Thursday’s draft to the Lakers in return for Russell and Timofey Mozgov. The 21-year-old Russell is the key to the deal, the No. 2-overall pick two seasons ago seen as a foundation for the Nets’ rebuild.

The Nets only can hope to replicate the chemistry Lin had with Walker two seasons ago in Charlotte, when the Hornets made the playoffs. And Lin — who Wednesday was at the Steve Nash Showdown in Manhattan — said since he and Russell are so different, they easily will play complementary basketball.
