Coldplay’s 10th album, Moon Music, is out Friday. The band opens up to Zane
Lowe about how touring and the creation of this project helped them realize
their purpose: to provide a sense of community.
Coldplay emphasizes the importance of setting limits by deciding to retire
from music recording after almost three decades in the industry, as shared by
Martin. The seven-time Grammy-winning band revealed this decision while they
were promoting their 10th album, Moon Music, which is coming out on October
4, 2024. "We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that's real. Yeah, I
promise," Martin said. Explaining his reasoning, the singer jokingly said,
"Less is more," before adding, "For some of our critics, even less would be
even more! It's really important that we have that limit."
Martin mentioned that the band will still work on some collaborative
projects, but the Coldplay catalogue will be complete after they release
their 12th album. He also explained that creating an album with a band is a
rewarding but challenging process, so this retirement will give the five
members the rest they truly deserve.
Martin further emphasized that good things should always come to an end.
