A Bloomberg investigation reveals Taiwanese tech companies are helping Huawei
build a secret chip network in China
2) With Taipei pledging to keep advanced tech from China's military, the
previously unreported Taiwanese presence in Huawei’s efforts risks stirring
the democratic island ahead of elections in January
3) The companies involved in Huawei's chip efforts include a reseller of chip
materials, a TSMC supplier and subsidiaries of engineering and construction
firms.
This support is significant for Huawei in terms of obtaining know-how
4) “The chips from these plants built with Taiwanese companies’ help could
eventually be used on Chinese missiles aimed at Taiwan,” says Li Jung-Shian,
professor at Taiwan-based National Cheng Kung University
5) It’s unclear whether the companies’ potential involvement violates
American sanctions, in part because US curbs are designed to curtail the
export of American-origin technology to Huawei rather than blocking all
business relationships
6) Those sanctions were called into question after Huawei unveiled the Mate

the US to completely cut it off along with chipmaker SMIC
