Taiwan's representative to the United States has been invited to attend US
President Joe Biden's swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US announced
that Hsiao Bi-khim has been invited by the US Joint Congressional Committee
on Inaugural Ceremonies.

Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party says this is the first time its
representative to the United States has been invited to a president's
inauguration since diplomatic ties were severed in 1979.
台湾执政党民进党表示，这是自1979年双方断交后
驻美代表首次受邀参加美国总统的就职典礼
Prior to the ceremony, Hsiao posted a video of herself on Twitter standing in
front of the Capitol, where she said, "Democracy is our common language and
freedom is our common objective."
She said, "I look forward to working with the next administration in advancing
our mutual values and interests."

Meanwhile, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen took to Twitter to congratulate the
new president and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Her tweet reads, "We wish you and your administration every success. Taiwan
stands ready to work with you as a global force for good."
