在日本称为幽灵会社因而衍伸出幽灵公司的用法。
与一种出现在离岸金融中心已经开设的公司法人，有公司名字，
但是与还未有经营业务的现成公司
（Readymade company／Shelf company／Aged corporation）是不同的。
在用途与目的上又与虚设（行号）公司（dummy corporation ，dummy company）不同。
