HYDERABAD: A 40-year-old man, Sammayya, a resident of Ghanpur in Warangal
district died from injuries suffered in an attack by a troop of monkeys on
Saturday.
He succumbed to his injuries at the local hospital where he was taken to by
some of the locals who managed to ward off the marauding monkeys.
Telangana government only recently announced that it was releasing Rs 55 lakh
to trap monkeys that have made human habitations their home and release them
in forests. Thousands of monkeys roam villages and towns in the state
terrorizing people by attacking them or by snatching away food from them or
after entering their homes. At least 1,000 such Rhesus Macaques are also
found in pockets of Hyderabad.
