The color blue has inspired artists throughout the ages, from the painter
Yves Klein to the musician Joni Mitchell. It is only natural, then, that the
primary color pervades the minds of fashion designers every so often.
In fact, the recent wave of independent denim and menswear label, especially
those coming from Japan, relies entirely on the rich blue shade resulted from
natural indigo dye extracted from plants.
“My son was admiring those Japanese designers who used indigo dye in their
designs. Indigo was still very much associated with the country. But it
occurred to me that Indonesia had many potentials when it came to natural dye,
” said Sancaya Rini, the founder of clothing line Kana.
