So the other day I met a girl in Starbucks near NTU.
She was waiting in line behind me to order her coffee.
It all seemed like an ordinary coffee day for me until I heard she said
"Can I get a grande frappuccino with one extra expresso shot, please?"
Usually, it's not that rare to hear someone speaking in English at a Starbucks
but I was so impressed with her strong British accent that I turned around.
Well, she was just the type of girl as Janet. I believed she is Taiwanese
born, and then spent some years in the UK.
You know, girls who seem to stay abroad for some years and have such
inexplainable self-confidence that lets out a bothering possitive energy.
So then we were waiting for our coffee, and she started to talk to me (in
English, of course.)
"Hey, I noticed that you order latte. Do you think they use fresh milk?"
"Well, I can't be sure at all, especially when Starbucks is run by the worst
enterprise, the Uni President. The ingredients of everything they carry
leave a great deal to be desired and shall be testified with doubts.
I could tell she was surprised by my answer, and she might have not expected
that I would answer to her in such fluent English.
"Well," she replied, "I guess you are right. But when I was in the UK, I
could only trust Starbucks for its stable and consistent quality. Therefore,
when I came back to Taiwan, I always buy coffee here. I guess I just can't
get rid of my sickness for the good memories spent in the UK. This Starbucks
coffee always seems to bring me back to the good old days."
I knew I was right when she couldn't help but bring up "UK" in front of me
within just seconds of conversation between us.
"Starbucks sells good coffee around the world," I replied, "but in Taiwan,
sadly it is run by Uni President. So I noticed that you spoke such fluent
English. How many years have you spent abroad?"
"Four years," she replied, with a sense of satisfaction on her face which
seemed to me like she had been waiting for me to ask her for a long time.
"I finished my bachelor degree in modern arts there."
"Oh, I see," I replied to her, trying to suppress my disgust towards her.
"No wonder you have such a STRONG British accent." I particularly emphasize
the adjective "strong."
"Thanks," she replied with a proud delight on her face.
"What makes you think this is a compliment?" I replied to her coldly, grabbed
my coffee which was just done in time, and flown away, leaving her behind.
所以讲英文的时候友英国腔很屌吗?
为什么这个女的会觉得我跟她说你的英国腔好重的时候
她会喜不自胜地跟我道谢呀?
