TransAsia flight crashes into Taiwanese river, no reports of casualties
(CNN)A Taiwanese turboprop aircraft has crashed into the Keelong River in the
capital Taipei.
The TransAsia flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Taipei en route to
the island of Kinmen. No casualties have been reported at this time.
Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) confirmed that the flight
lost contact while over the Nangang district of Taipei.
Shortly before 11 a.m. local time, the New Taipei City Fire Department
received reports that the light civil aircraft may have hit the Nanhu Bridge
which spans the Keelong River, before crashing into the water.
Rescue teams were dispatched and while most passengers are accounted for,
around 10 were still to be rescued, the Taipei City Government told CNA,
Taiwan's official news agency.
Last year, a TransAsia flight which was attempting to land in the Taiwanese
Penghu Islands crashed, resulting in 48 deaths.
