这题考的是句意的平行，而不完全是文法上的平行

(2) began as
(3) later merged with
not (1) but ( (2) and (3) )
not...but... 和 ...and... 的平行应该隔开会比较清楚
而且 began 和 merge 平行，才会比较通顺 看我上面 ( (2) and (3) ) 多加一组括号
另外，这题的"likely"是副词用法。并非形容词的 be likely to
所以 more than likely 要同时写上去，符合惯用及比较原则。
more than likely 意思就是比 likely (=probably) 的机率更高
(D) (E) 不能选的理由不只有因为笨拙(你是想说 redundancy 冗赘 吗？)
