恭贺本月机经班同学一战考取720高分，今天再来分享一题有来源的修辞题目。
The second great leap forward in bridge building would not occur until the
Industrial Revolution of the 18th century. A major impetus was the newly
invented railroad, which created the need for bridges that could span rivers
and carry the heavy loads of steam engines and their freight. [The first
bridge made of cast iron was a semi-circular arch supporting a roadway
constructed over the Severn River in Coalbrookdale, England, in 1779. ]

题目的原文就是框起来的部分，但是句子的后半段出题者又加了一串句子，而这添加的句子
也是本题画线的部分。
The first bridge made of cast iron was a semi-circular arch supporting a
roadway constructed over the Severn River in Coalbrookdale, England, in 1779,

本题选项中可以把选项粗分两种类型：
（I） which was the only span…
（II） and was the only span…
本题不难，用功的小伙伴在观察出选项的差异后，应该都已经知道本题一定考“平衡法”还
有“代名词”。
还没有感觉的同学，我们在这边再次提醒：
看到了“and”就要思考平衡的问题，平衡的单位可能有名词、动词、形容词、词组甚至于
句子。至于平衡，请同学务必要稍微读一下句子的意思再来确认平衡，在实际的考题里头，
已经有不少修辞的题目要从句意上来判断平衡，长相最漂亮的答案反而是“文法对，句意错
。” 所以建议同学们在学习一些修辞技巧时，不要盲目地死背硬记技巧，应该要动动脑筋
思考为什么？
扯远了，回到本题，这题同学们看到关系代名词which时就要思考关系代名词指涉的问题，
在这里which在句意上指的是主词bridge，这样子关系代名词先行词太~~~~远了，也不符合
我们上课时莫老师教授因“轻重问题”而把形容词子句后移的条件，所以（I）类型的答案
我们就先删掉，剩下的选项中，出题者在span后面做了动词的变化，依照本题句意，我们应
该选择使用过去简单式（and was the only span that survived）即可，而非完成式。
最后和我们上课时一样，帮同学补充一些容易忘掉的重点：
1. the only N + 关代… （这个关代一定要用that！）

(a) 先行词是“人+物”

(b) 先行词前面有序数
John is the first boy that came last week.
(c) 先行词前面有all ; no ; every ; any ; the only ; the same ; the very
