Justin Bieber is opening up about the damaging effect of his early fame. In a candid post on Instagram on Monday, the singer reflected on achieving fame at such a young age, detailing how growing up in the spotlight caused him to struggle with his mental health, start relying on heavy drugs and “abused” his relationships.
“I became ultra-successful, it happened within a strand of two years,” Bieber writes. “My whole world was flipped on its head.” The singer explained how detrimental childhood fame was to his personal growth. “I went from a 13-year-old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world, with millions saying how much they loved me and how great I was.”
The pop star revealed that he struggled with drug use as a result, also admitting that he became “disrespectful” to women. “By 20, I made every bad decision you could have thought of and went from one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged, and hated person in the world.”
Justin Bieber says he is finally bouncing back from these terrible decisions and credits his growth largely to marriage. Saying he is learning “patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility, and all of the things it looks like to be a good man.” Read his full post above.
Earlier this year, Bieber announced he was taking a break from music to work on his mental health.
