I remember the first time I read The Diamond Sutra, I felt like a tongue
twister, and the scriptures look alike. After that I read The Diamond Sutra
three times a week, I feel that the scriptures seems to be substituted into
the formula, for example: “the Buddha said a, but not a, a name of a. ”
After a while, my master asked me to read The Diamond Sutra seven times a
day. At that time, my views on The Diamond Sutra are different! But it took a
long time to understand the meaning of the four hexagrams in The Diamond
Sutra “All the mind’s arbitrary conceptions of matter, phenomena, and of
all conditioning factors and all conceptions and ideas relating thereto are
like a dream, a phantasm, a bubble, a shadow, evanescent dew, a flash of
lightening.” We live in this world and feel happy and painful because we
think all the things as real. If we look at the world with the wisdom of The
Diamond Sutra, we will find it is just a dream. If we use modern technology
as a metaphor, seems we are in a virtual reality world. All the things we see
in VR is not true. If we know that it is fake, when someone in the VR yells
at us, we don’t feel angry. It is The Diamond Sutra’s wisdom which teach us
to stay in this world with a different view. It is the experience I apply the
essence of The Diamond Sutra into my life.
