WineD3D For Windows is a DirectX 1-11 to OpenGL wrapper based on WineD3D,
which is an almost complete implementation of DirectX used in Wine.
Even if Windows supports native DirectX, using WineD3D can improve
compatibility with older games, especially on Windows 8 and later that do not
support 16-bit screen modes. Another possible use is to imitate unsupported
versions of DirectX or to transfer DirectX applications to OpenGL without
having to rewrite the rendering code.
Note that WineD3D is far from perfect, and many games will not work.
Instructions on using DLLs are also included.
Version 1.7.x works from Windows 2000.
Version 2.x works from Windows Vista.
Important: 64-bit versions are for 64-bit applications on 64-bit Windows. For
older games, use the standard version on Windows 32 or 64 bits.
