此剧目前正在俄罗斯、拉脱维亚与立陶宛的宫殿与片场拍摄，这出全长共4集的迷你影集是
由Nigel Williams担任编剧，描述的是执掌俄罗斯长达34年的一代女王的晚年故事。
包括她是如何将俄罗斯塑造成欧洲强权之一的部分。

Gina McKee (Notting Hill)，饰演Countess Bruce，凯萨琳终身的友人与知己。
Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful)，饰演首相Panin，有手腕的政治家，凯萨琳儿子的策士
