You should hire me because I can identify students' difficulties by asking gui
ding questions. For example, when a student wrote, She like to play basketball
, I asked, Is she third person singular? Eventually, the student gave the corr
ect answer.
One time, I had a student who had low motivation to learn and was not very int
erested in doing exercises.
Instead of simply asking the student to answer the questions, I turned the exe
rcise into a mission. For example, I said, “It’s detective time! Can you fin
d the mistake in this sentence? What is wrong with it? How should we correct i
t? And why?”
By giving the student a role and a clear mission, I made the activity feel mor
e like solving a puzzle than doing an exercise. The student became more engage
d and willing to think about the question.
In the end, the student was able to find the mistake and give the correct answ
er. This experience taught me that changing the way I present an activity can
make a big difference in a student’s motivation and participation.
