Tuchel on the difficulty of planning for a demanding summer and being
ready for the green light

With the end of our season now less than four weeks away, Thomas Tuchel
has been discussing the challenges of planning for a summer transfer
window with the backdrop of uncertainty over the club's future ownership.

The Blues have seven games of 2021/22 remaining and some big targets still
to reach, most notably securing Champions League qualification once again
and winning the FA Cup.
Yet the Chelsea head coach admits preparations for squad management ahead
of the new campaign, which would usually be well underway at this stage of
the year, have been hampered by the imminent change in ownership.
Nevertheless, Tuchel insists work behind the scenes remains ongoing so
that decisions can be made swiftly once the restrictions imposed by the UK
Government are lifted.
'You're never fully sure but we would have some targets and would usually
have contacted some players and found out about their situations but now
our hands are tied,' claimed Tuchel. 'We can still have the talks inside
the building but we cannot act so it's not an ideal situation.
'It would be challenging enough with a stable situation but we don't have
it. We try to show our commitment for it and this is very important for me
to give this message. I'm looking forward to it and I'm passionate about
it.

Tuchel is hopeful that he and the club can start putting summer plans into
motion soon
'As soon as we can act, we will try to act and turn things around, try to
turn a disadvantage into an advantage. I don't have the solutions right
now but we will try to stay positive about it.'
Antonio Rudiger has already informed Tuchel of his intention to depart
this summer, while fellow defender Andreas Christensen is also out of
contract, adding to the difficulties that lie ahead.
Not only do Chelsea hope to strengthen in order to close the gap to
Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, we must
also replace those leaving south-west London and Tuchel is aware that
makes the coming months particularly tough to navigate successfully.
'It can be complex enough if you lose a player like Toni and maybe lose
another player like Andreas with their quality and both of them for free,'
explained the boss.
'It's demanding enough nowadays in football to lose this kind of quality
in a back three even if everything else stays in place so it can be a very
demanding summer.

'I want to be positive about it and want to speak about the things we can
influence. It will not be easy because we wanted to compete [for the
league title] and you could see that we could not over the long run. We
can compete in periods and in direct matches.
'The key thing for me is we keep the mentality in the building and in the
club, the competitive mentality that was installed over a decade, and
hopefully we can find our way through.'
Finding clarity quickly is important so that our start to 2022/23 is not
hampered and Tuchel is confident that we can catch up on two lost months
so long as a resolution to the ownership situation is found soon.
'I don't want to write it [the summer transfer window] off right now
because it's only April and it's too early,' he added. 'We still have
faith in the people who take care about it from our side on the board. We
need to finish it as fast as possible and we try to be prepared behind
the scenes to do our job.
'At the moment, it's very difficult to predict what's going to happen but
if we have the green light to act then we are prepared and will share our
views on the team.'
