Chalobah reveals his role models and explains key to Chelsea's defensive
fortitude

Trevoh Chalobah continues to ride the high of being a Chelsea squad member
and after shining again in Saturday's emphatic win at Leicester City, the
22-year-old has spoken about those who are aiding his rapid development.

The defender made his seventh Premier League appearance of the season at
the King Power Stadium. Remarkably, the only two goals we have conceded in
those games have been penalties. Having also scored twice, debuted in the
Champions League and lifted the Super Cup, Chalobah is enjoying a breakout
season to remember.
Given media duties today ahead of our meeting with Juventus, Chalobah
expressed his gratitude towards the pair of centre-backs he lined up
alongside at Leicester.
'Thiago Silva was one of my idols growing up as a kid, and with how
successful he's been,' revealed Trevoh.
'It's great sharing the pitch and training sessions with him. For me as a
young player he is someone I need to look at for where I want to be, and
where I want to go to.

'Antonio [Rudiger] has been a very big mentor for me since I first came
here,' added Chalobah, who shares Sierra Leonean heritage with Rudiger.
'He took me in and helped me in training sessions. When I went out on
loan, he told me what was needed. Now's it's good to share the same pitch
with him.'
As well as Thomas Tuchel, who handed Chalobah his chance to be a member of
the squad and not go out on loan again following a superb showing in
pre-season and then the Super Cup final, the Chelsea Academy graduate was
quick to underline the importance his elder brother Nathaniel has had on
his journey.
'If it wasn't for my brother, I wouldn't have started playing football,'
said the current Chelsea Chalobah.
'Until this day we are still talking about it, talking about things I need
to do. He's been at this massive club and knows what it takes to play for
this club, and I make sure every time I put on this shirt I give it my
all.

'It's important I keep my consistency levels up. Every time I get the
opportunity to play, I give my all and show the manager what I'm about.'
There is no question Chalobah is doing just that. Even with the quality of
central defender at his disposal, Chalobah has forced his way into
Tuchel's thinking, already accumulating 11 appearances. An important
component of our defensive efforts in 2021/22, Chalobah is well placed to
explain why it is going so well in that area of the pitch.
'It starts in training,' he believes. 'It's very competitive, even when we
do small-sided training games. Nobody wants to lose, and nobody wants to
concede a goal.
'The mentality we have within ourselves and what the manager demands from
us is shown in the games. We aren't conceding and if you don't concede,
you win games. It's good at the moment.'
