Marc Guehi extends Chelsea contract
02 Sep 2019
Defender Marc Guehi has signed a new Chelsea contract having started the
season in fine form for our development squad.

The teenager has been an ever-present for Andy Myers' side, who remain
unbeaten after their opening five matches and currently sit top of the
Premier League 2 table. Guehi has captained the team from centre-back and
helped us rescue a point at Manchester City with a last-minute equaliser.
He was previously involved with the senior side in pre-season, playing the
first half against Bohemians in Dublin.
'I'm really excited and happy to sign a new contract and extend my stay at
the club,' he told the official Chelsea website after putting pen to paper
on a new deal that will run until at least 2022. 'I can now focus
completely on my football and try to better myself every day.

Guehi has been involved in senior training throughout the early weeks of
the season
'I'll continue trying to do the best I can and make an impression when I'm
playing. Having the captain's armband with the development squad gives me
that extra bit of responsibility and allows me to show my leadership
qualities.
'Seeing how Frank Lampard has given the younger boys chances is really
inspiring for me and gives me that motivation to push even more. Players
like Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori have broken through as
defenders in the last few seasons and that really motivates me, as well as
someone like Billy Gilmour who I know very well. It's an amazing
achievement for him - hopefully myself and many other players get the
opportunity to play for Chelsea as well.'
After signing for the Blues at the age of eight, Guehi has progressed
impressively through the ranks and featured regularly for the youth team
as we won seven trophies in two seasons between 2016 and 2018.
On the international stage, Guehi played in every game for England at the
2017 Under-17 World Cup, helping the young Lions lift the trophy with a
goal in their 5-2 final victory over Spain. His bright start to this
season earned a maiden England Under-21 call-up last week and he will be
looking to make his debut at that level in forthcoming Euro qualifiers
against Turkey and Kosovo.
Guehi's new deal follows the contract extensions signed by fellow Academy
graduates Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount, Jamie Cumming and Conor
Gallagher this summer.
