Chelsea's Gonzalo Higuain announces Argentina retirement

Chelsea and Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain has today announced his
retirement from international football.

Higuain confirmed his decision on Thursday, choosing instead to focus on
other areas of life, including his efforts on his career with the Blues,
having scored 31 times in 75 international appearances.
The 31-year-old marked his Argentina debut with a goal against Peru in a
World Cup qualifier in October 2009, with his final appearance coming in
last summer's World Cup, a 2-1 win over Nigeria in Russia.
Announcing his decision, Higuain said: 'My time with Argentina is over.
I've made the decision because I want to enjoy my family, I want to spend
time with my daughter and at the same time I feel that I gave my country
eveything I could.
'I'm fully focused on my commitment to Chelsea. The Premier League is
amazing and I really want to enjoy it. It's very competitive indeed.'
Since signing for the Blues on loan from Juventus in January, Higuain has
scored three times in 10 appearances. He will be back in action this
weekend when we travel to Cardiff City on Sunday.
