This is a statement regarding Azur Lane Korea's take down of my illustration
Hello, This is Nardack and I am writing about the situation I am currently
in.
On April 27th, 2018, X.D.Global, Azur Lane's Korea Publishing company, used
my illustration which was commissioned for their Korean server in-game login
page.
Right after the update, few korean internet users protested against the
company by saying, "Nardack is an illustrator who supports anti-social
organization. Do you still want to use that kind of illustrator's work for
the game?"
According to their accusation, Feminism is an anti-social ideology. So if one
supports feminism, then they must be a part of the anti-social organization.
Since I followed or liked tweets from illustrators who support or agree with
feminism, the protesters accused me of involvement with an anti-social
organization.
For clarification about the issue, Azur Lane Korea sent me a message through
direct message and asked if I am actually a member of an anti-social
organization.
Even though I answered that I do not participate in such activities, Azur
Lane Korea kept demanding me to tweet the following: "I have no relation to
Megalia whatsoever, and I do not support Feminism."
I refused to accept their demand, and my illustration, which was initially
used for Azur Lane Korea's login page, was taken down instantly.
The protesters who originally accused me, then took this action by the
company as indefinite proof of my involvement with the anti-social
organization. Since then, the accusers have gone as far as to condemn and
harass me on various social media outlets.
Also, Azur Lane Korea is persistently claiming that if I officially tweet, "I
have no relation to Megalia whatsoever, and I do not support Feminism," they
will reinstate my illustration on their login page.
I am truly horrified by this incident, and I find myself asking the question:
"Do we truly live in 21st century?"
I strongly disagree with Azur Lane Korea's appalling response, and I require
a formal apology for their handling of the situation, which falsely portrayed
me as a member of an anti-social organization.
Going beyond just the false accusations, I ask you this:
Is the stance taken by a part of the Korean internet, "feminism is
anti-social," a legal and social agreement made by members of our own
community?
If not, then it's only company's stance, and as a person who has the right to
freedom of expression, I have right to disagree with the company's stance.
I do not participate in, nor agree with any anti-social ideology, and I
strongly oppose coercive and illogical verification of belief as well.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
And also I want to thank those of you who have supported and assisted me
through these difficult times.
April 29th, 2018. Nardack.
