歌罗西书一章十五节至十八节,描述基督的三方面:(1)基督与 神的关系。(2)基督
与受造物的关系。(3)基督与教会的关系。歌罗西书一章十五节的“首生”,不但是指
基督在时间上存在于一切受造物之先,同时也指基督在等级上,祂的权能是在一切受造物
之上。歌罗西书一章十五节若译成“一切受造之物的首生者”,the firstborn of all
creation,是大有问题的,原因有五:(1)整段经文与整卷书信的重点在于显示基督在
万有之上的卓越地位。(2)在这段经文中,有关基督的其他描述,都清楚显示基督在一
切受造之物以先,并凌驾其上,例如一章十六节说到基督是万有的创造者、万有是藉他也
为他而造,一章十七节说到基督在万有以先、是万有的支撑者,等等。(3)如果“首生
者”创造了“万有”,“首生者”便不可能是受造之物的一部分,因为受造之物不可能创
造自己。(4)“首生者”接受所有天使的敬拜(希伯来书一章六节),但受造之物是不
应该接受敬拜的(出埃及记二十章第四节至第五节)。(5)“首生的”希腊文是
prototokos,假使基督是“受造之物的首生者-首先被造的”,希腊文就应该是
protoktisis才对。
