Lin created a stir as an amateur, winning MVP honors at the 2010 World Junior
Championships and planning to sign with the Yankees for $350,000 until the
Chinese Taipei Baseball Association said it would ban him from playing or
coaching in Taiwan if he turned pro before graduating from high school. He
stayed to get his diploma and broke the bonus record for Taiwanese position
players when the Red Sox gave him $2.05 million in 2012. He posted just a
.614 OPS in his first five years in pro ball before 2017, when he broke out
in Double-A and served as a competent stopgap solution at third base in
Boston.
Lin had more success at the plate when he did a better job of balancing
selectivity with aggression. He always has controlled the strike zone well
and made consistent contact, but now he will pick his spots and hunt pitches
to drive. He won't be a power threat but his seven homers in 2017 eclipsed
his total of six in his first five seasons.
Though his plus speed remains his best tool, Lin never has translated it into
many stolen bases. It plays better on defense, where his quickness and
average arm allow him to play shortstop, second base, third base and center
field. He doesn't have the offensive upside to profile as a regular but could
be a useful utilityman if the progress he made at the plate is real.

目前红袜Top30里能守2B/SS的多半完成度都不高 (都在A+以下或是刚签约)
唯独 Chad De La Guerra (No.25) 去年是A+/AA的先发 SS/2B
去年在AFL也加练了三垒的守位
且他的Scouting grades分布跟林子伟颇为相似, 可能是强力竞争者之一
因为本人对红袜农场不熟, 希望有袜迷能够分享Guerra的实力了
因此今年Lin能否在MLB亮相, 应该还是取决于春训期间
E.Nunez, B.Holt, M.Hernandez, D.Marrero等竞争者的状况了
此外, 去年Lin在3A被左杀得非常严重 三围: .107/ .219/ .214 OPS:.433
整体在3A的打击表现, 亦不如在AA和MLB这么火热
因此打击仍是今年需要优先补强的课题
