Bautista: I haven't paid for a meal or drink in Toronto since the bat flip
In October, Jose Bautista authored one of the greatest moments in Toronto
Blue Jays history with his go-ahead, three-run homer in Game 5 of ALDS
against the Texas Rangers and the unforgettable bat flip that followed.
On Friday, the 35-year-old superstar said he's been reaping the benefits
of his postseason heroics all winter, too.
Bautista, who served as Drake's assistant coach Friday at Ricoh Coliseum
for the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, admitted he hasn't paid for a meal or
a drink in Toronto since his iconic flip, which spawned countless memes and
even inspired a tepid impression from the mayor of Toronto.
"I haven't had to yet," Bautista told ESPN. "So we'll see if that changes -
hopefully not."
A six-time All-Star, Bautista has spent the better part of the last decade
endearing himself to Torontonians, and the journeyman-turned-superstar - a
free agent next winter - recently expressed his desire to spend the remainder
of his career with the Blue Jays.
"It would be an honor if I had the opportunity to do so," Bautista said.
