Children who are waiting to be vaccinated against Measles and Rubella at
Alwihda health centre, Al Jazirah state in Sudan, are smiling.
Delivered with UNICEF support, the campaign targeted over 500,000 children
from 9 months to 15 years in the two high-risk localities of Um Elgora and
South Al Jazirah. "The campaign is important because measles can affect a
child’s hearing, vision, movement, and development. There are many children
receiving the vaccine for the first time because they were in conflict zones
and couldn’t reach safe areas, and in those areas, where vaccines were not
available", said Aseel Abbas, a health officer and supervisor of the campaign.
