Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com reports that the Cubs have agreed to terms on
a one-year contract with Jason Motte.
The deal, which is pending a physical, is worth $4.5 million and contains
$2.5 million worth of incentives for games finished. Motte had a rough 2014
season in his first year back from Tommy John surgery, posting a 4.68 ERA and
1.52 WHIP in 29 appearances. Still, he's a worthy gamble on a one-year deal
in hopes that his pre-surgery velocity returns. Motte held a 2.87 ERA while
striking out over a batter per inning in his first five years with the
Cardinals.
