Cubs acquired C Miguel Montero from the Diamondbacks for RHPs Jeferson Mejia
and Zack Godley.
The Cubs will assume the three years and $40 million remaining on Montero's
contract. The 31-year-old backstop faded during the second half this past
season en route to a .243/.329/.370 batting line with 13 home runs and 72
RBI, but there's bounce-back potential in Chicago. His framing ability
provides extra value. Welington Castillo was the Cubs' primary catcher this
past season, but he's now likely to be traded.
