Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Marlins have made a six-year offer
to Jose Fernandez.
It would carry around $40 million in guaranteed money, adds Heyman. Fernandez
is a $cott Bora$ client and has shied away from questions about whether he'd
sign long-term with Miami before getting a taste of free agency, but maybe
the $325 million Giancarlo Stanton extension will inspire some different
thinking. Fernandez is due back from Tommy John surgery next June. The
22-year-old owns a 2.25 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 10.3 K/9 in 224 1/3 career major
league innings.
