Hisashi Iwakuma selected to play for MLB all-stars in Japan series

This was in the works as the 2014 season was coming to an end,
but it was made official today. Mariners all-star pitcher
Hisashi Iwakuma was added to the MLB all-star team that will be
touring Japan in November. The team of MLB all-stars will play
a five-game series and two exhibition game against “Samurai Japan,”
which is the country’s national team.
Iwakuma will join teammate Robinson Cano on the team that will be
managed by Red Sox manager John Farrell, who replaced Ron Washington.
Other players selected include Albert Pujols, Yasiel Puig and Adam Jones.
“I am very happy and honored to be part of this All-Star team,”
said Iwakuma in a statement released by the Mariners.
I look forward to pitching in my hometown during the series.”
Iwakuma went 15-9 with a 3.52 ERA (70 ER, 170.0 IP) in 28 starts with
the Mariners in 2014, despite missing the first month and a half of
the season with a finger injury.
He will make one start during the series and is limited to 80 pitches
– based on the rules set for the series.
The team will have two workouts at Dodger Stadium on November 6-7 (12-2:30 pm)
before departing for Japan.
The MLB Network will exclusively televise every game of the Japan All-Star
Series live in the U.S., beginning with the exhibition game on Tuesday,
November 11 at 1 am PT
