White Sox, Marlins Completing Deal Involving Ozzie

9:18pm: The White Sox could obtain money in the deal instead of or along with
a prospect, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post (Twitter link).
8:58pm: The White Sox are hoping for a "decent prospect" from the Marlins,
but they aren't expecting anyone on Florida's 40-man roster, according to Bob
Nightengale of USA Today (on Twitter).
8:48pm: The White Sox are getting a player in the deal, according to Jon Paul
Morosi of FOX Sports. It doesn't appear to be Logan Morrison, according to
Jon Heyman of SI.com (Twitter links).
7:57pm: The White Sox and Marlins are in the final stages of completing a
deal that would send Ozzie Guillen to Miami to be the Marlins’ new manager,
according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Guillen met with chairman
Jerry Reinsdorf today to discuss the details of his split with the White Sox,
according to Cowley, who notes that GM Kenny Williams was not present.
There will likely be substantive changes to Chicago’s coaching staff, but
pitching coach Don Cooper already has a deal on the table to stay in the
organization, according to Cowley.
The Marlins interviewed third base coach Joe Espada and Nationals coach Bo
Porter today. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that they interviewed a
second internal candidate today and notes that they had to comply with league
regulations and conduct a complete job search (Twitter links).
If tonight's game is indeed Guillen's final one with the White Sox, he'll
leave the Windy City with a record of 677-617 (plus tonight's result). The
White Sox made two playoff appearances under Guillen: they won the World
Series in 2005, Guillen's second season, and lost to the Rays in the 2008
ALDS.
The White Sox and Marlins discussed a Guillen for Mike Stanton trade last
offseason (don't expect a substantive return for the White Sox if the deal
goes through). Though they're rare, there is some precedent for
player-manager swaps. Following the 2002 season, the Rays sent Randy Winn to
Seattle for minor leaguer Antonio Perez to compensate the Mariners for losing
Lou Piniella.
