St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols(notes) becomes a free agent at
season's end unless he and the team can agree to an extension before then.
His agent, Dan Lozano, has said that he doesn't want to negotiate at all after
Spring Training gets started, which is now only about three weeks ago.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that talks have "yet to reach a higher gear."
The paper also points out that Club Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. recently said that
"the club was willing to wait until after the season, if necessary, to retain
its signature player."
A source to the Dispatch reports that Lozano "proposed a 10-year, $300 million
framework" last summer.
