Maatsen calls for the ball with Burnley
It was a mixed week in the Championship with Burnley for Ian Maatsen.
Things started well as his perfect cross from the left set up Jay
Rodriguez to score their equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Hull City, who had
Nathan Baxter on the bench.

However, a hot-tempered derby with Blackpool on Saturday saw Burnley go
three goals ahead, only for the visitors to pull it back to 3-3.
Blackpool's Sonny Carey was then shown a red card late on for a terrible
tackle on Maatsen, but the Dutchman was also sent off for his reaction to
the challenge.

In League One, Lucas Bergstrom made it four clean sheets in his last five
games as Peterborough United recorded back-to-back wins. That started with
a fairly straightforward 2-0 victory over 10-man Sheffield Wednesday last
Tuesday, taking advantage of chaos in the Owls' ranks as players and
coaching staff were at odds during the tactical reshuffle following the
red card.

Things went even smoother when Peterborough hosted Lincoln City on
Saturday, as they continued their flying start to the campaign with a 4-0
victory. Bergstrom was largely untroubled as the Posh underlined their
early promotion credentials and went second in the table.
Fellow goalkeeper Jamie Cumming and defender Henry Lawrence were also
playing consecutive home games in League One over the last week, with MK
Dons. That saw the Dons pick up their first points of the season with a
2-1 win over Port Vale on Tuesday, although they needed Lawrence to clear
off the line with his side leading 1-0. Cumming then produced an excellent
save to hold on to the same lead against Accrington Stanley on Saturday,
but a second half penalty meant they had to settle for a 1-1 draw on this
occasion.

Cumming also spent the second half of last season on loan with MK Dons
Sam McClelland's first goal in the Football League gave Barrow victory and
ended Walsall's unbeaten start to the season. The defender headed his side
two goals up after just 12 minutes and, despite Walsall pulling one back,
they triumphed 2-1. McClelland then helped Barrow keep a clean sheet in a
1-0 home win over Harrogate, leaving them third in the League Two table.

Overseas, Romelu Lukaku helped Inter Milan make it two wins in as many
games in 2022/23, in his first home game for the club since rejoining them
on loan this summer. He headed the ball down in the box for Lautaro
Martinez to open the scoring against Spezia and hit the crossbar himself
with another header, as Inter ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at San Siro.

There was a difficult debut for Malang Sarr at Monaco on his return to
France. The defender came off the bench shortly after his side had been
reduced to 10 men while trailing by two goals with 15 minutes remaining
against Lens. They conceded once more to make the final score 4-1.
Gabriel Slonina was on the receiving end of a 2-0 home defeat as Chicago
Fire were well beaten by New York City in MLS, with the hosts unable to
manage a shot on target during the 90 minutes.
