The Dodgers have declined reliever Joe Kelly’s option for the 2022 season.
Kelly signed a three-year deal in 2019 with a team option for a fourth year that would have paid him $12 million in 2022. The Dodgers, who instead paid a $4 million buyout, could still bring the free agent back on a new deal.
The 33-year-old right-hander went 7–4 with a 3.59 ERA, striking out 121 batters in 105 1/3 innings over his three seasons with Los Angeles. Kelly was 2–0 with a 2.86 ERA and career-best 0.98 WHIP in 2021. He returned from a shoulder procedure in May and averaged 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings.
